German violin, brescian model.
School of J. B. Vuillaume, Circa 1840
Labelled Paolo Maggini in Brescia, the one piece back of light curl, the ribs similar,
the scroll plain, the top of fine to wide grain, the varnish of a red-brown color.
A nice German full size violin made.
A model based on the works of  Da Salo and Maggini of Brescia (Ita),
it boasts double purflings and an extra turn of the scroll.
Light yellow-brown varnish on a cinnamon coloured ground with a really nice patina.
Medium grain spruce front, the back, sides and scroll of broadly flamed maple.
The fascinating large violin model of the classical Italian maestro Giovanni Paolo Maggini was copied by many craftsmen in the past 400 years, due to the beauty of the double purfling and the reduced winding of the scroll.
The German "Maggini" violin offered here is one of these instruments, most probably in the Lowendall workshops and features the Lowendall style that expresses his inimitable personality.
The delicate ff-holes were finely cut in an oblique position, and the antiqued varnish indicates the Saxon provenance of the violin tastefully.
Of course the most important feature of this violin is its excellent response and the exceptionally good sound,
that is large, clear and warm, precise, radiant and full of character - a highly recommended instrument by our professional violinist that is offered in very good condition that was worked over thoroughly by our expert luthiers and is offered ready to play.
This is a serious violin in search of a serious player/performer!
