    Description

Everyone in the world of spinning is familiar with the name of Rick Reeves.  His meticulous craftsmanship and attention to the smallest detail was the standard to which other artisans aspired but rarely achieved.
Rick crafted this gorgeous spinning wheel for me in 1981.  Made of solid Iowa black walnut, it has an embedded pale yellow rose on the exquisitely carved table.  The full spokes on the 19" wheel have small rings that make a delightful, soothing "clickety-clack" sound as the wheel turns.  (Had I known eBay now allows videos, I would have taken one before disassembling it.)  It has two noticeable areas where I believe paint has gotten on it - one of the legs, and an area on the wheel (see photos).  I have not attempted to remove it, other than to scrape it gently with my fingernail.  (I believe that a very, very fine steel wool would be able to remove the paint without damaging the finish.)  Included are two sets of carders (different sizes - see photos - one carder is stained and I have not tried to clean it), and an extra bobbin* (never used).   Also included is a drop spindle (NOT made by Rick - not shown).
There may be additional small scratches that my failing eyesight has missed and for that I apologize.  However, when it was being packed by UPS, one of the comments made was that it's in pristine condition.
This wheel has had very little use.  After moving to the Houston area from Chicago in 1982, it was difficult for me to find raw wool to spin (Texas being better-known for cattle rather than sheep - LOL), especially since the internet wasn't yet available.  So the wheel has basically stood near our rarely used fireplace as a decorative piece for 15-plus years, until it was packed away to make room for a chair that was needed for our growing family (grandchildren).
Neither my daughter nor any of my grandchildren are interested in learning the art of spinning.  Although it hurts my heart to sell it, I've decided that it really needs to go to a home where it will not only be appreciated for its beauty, but also be put to good use.  I really want it to go to a loving home where it'll be loved as much as (if not more than) I have loved it over the years.
This would make a fantastic Christmas gift for the spinner in your life - either you or a loved one.
Free UPS ground shipping (insured) to continental U.S.  Adult signature required. Professionally packed.
*NOTE:  Additional bobbins may be purchased from Hillcreek Fiber Studios that are made specifically for the older Reeves wheels.
