    Description

This auction is for a used 4/4 violin and used, rudimentary case.
This instrument has spent its life as part of our rental inventory.  For many years, students have played on this instrument and taken instruction towards their musical education.  As such, the instrument may show signs of wear, minor damage, and repair work completed by the professional luthiers of Classic Violins.  Because of this, we are offering this instrument at a fraction of its original retail price (more than 50% off of what we charge for a new instrument).
This is a terrific opportunity to purchase a very high quality, hand-made instrument at a very reasonable price.  Don't be fooled by other "cheap" instruments of dubious heritage and construction.  This is a professionally built, hand-made, high quality violin built by our shop or made to our specifications out of solid hardwoods, and professionally set up with great care and precision; the same detail and love we put into all instruments coming from our shop, including multi-thousand dollar professional instruments!  Why do we bother?  Because we know (as does any competent and qualified music teacher) that if a student does not have a quality, well-set up instrument, their musical journey will be exponentially more difficult, less enjoyable, and the chances of quitting are dramatically raised.  Our setup procedure includes:
    - Fitting new pegs, and lubricating them to turn smoothly and hold tuning
    - Adjusting the height, curve, and string spacing of the nut
    - "Dressing" or shaping the fingerboard to the correct curve and surface
    - Custom carving a new bridge
    - Custom fitting a soundpost
    - Installing quality strings (we typically use Thomastik "Dominant" or "Vision" strings on our rental instruments)
    - Playing and adjusting the instrument for optimal performance, sound production, and ease of playability
This instrument has gone through all of these set up procedures, as well as professional repairs and other work to make sure it is in fine, playing shape when it reaches you.
Please carefully study the pictures, as the instrument and case you receive will be the exact instrument and case pictured.  Instruments may have visible scratches, varnish damage, and repaired structural damage (none of which affect their sound and playability).  The included case is rudimentary, and may have damage to the outside, inside, fabric, foam, and handle.  It will, however, protect the instrument during shipping, and serve as a basic protective case.
Please ask any questions you may have before purchasing.  We are happy to furnish additional pictures, or any information you may require.
NOTE: This auction DOES NOT include a bow.  If you need a bow, or would like a case upgrade, please contact us prior to bidding and we can discuss the available options.
    About Us
Established in 1989, Classic Violins is a family owned and operated business operating out of Mundelein, Illinois.

All of our instruments offered for sale in our store have been carefully selected, inspected and set-up in order that we may provide our customers with the finest quality instruments at the best value. We don't believe in price "mark-ups" just to offer "sales" later; our prices are based on our honest appraisals of workmanship, materials and sound quality which we discern from our years of experience.

On our Ebay marketplace, we will be offering fine new and antique instruments, as well many instruments, bows and cases that have come from our past rental inventory. These instruments from our past rental inventory may have sustained cosmetic or minor structural damage in the past, but have been professionally repaired, carefully set up to the standards of The Chicago School of Violin Making, and tested to be sure they meet the same standards as the professional instruments we offer for sale. In this way, we are pleased to be able to offer high quality instruments at a discounted price. Be assured, these instruments ARE NOT cheap imports being sold by someone with no musical knowledge that are prevalent on Ebay. These are quality instruments, maintained and set up by professionals at a real violin shop with a physical store front that will still be here when others have disappeared. If you are seeking an instrument for your child (or yourself) that you can be sure is not just a 'violin shaped object', we invite you browse our store, and ask any questions you have before purchase.
We are always pleased to discuss our instruments (we don't keep secrets about what our instruments are!), and help to make sure you are getting an instrument that will suit your needs.
