    Description

Macbeth Evans Glass Company Petalware Monax Gold Trim Cup and Saucer.  The set is in mint condition.  It l
ooks like it was never used.  The cup is ~3 1/2" across (rim to rim) and ~2 1/2" tall; the saucer is ~6 1/2" across.  The cup has a gold rim; the plate, a gold band.
The cup is marked MADE IN USA in a circle on the bottom.
Petalware was first introduced in 1930; the pattern had the longest production period of any of Macbeth-Evans original patterns.
Around 1933, the company began using Monax, a translucent white glass they created for lighting fixtures, in their tableware.
In 1937, the company was bought by Corning Glass Works of New York, who continued to operate it as the Macbeth-Evans Division of Corning Glass Works in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.  However, the only dinnerware line that was continued was Petalware. Corning expanded the line by adding decorations to the colors Macbeth-Evans had been producing including flowers, birds and fruit.
